The firearms industry is full of software that overclaims on compliance. We’d rather be trusted than vague. So: keep the compliance tool you already run — FastBound, Orchid eBound, Easy Bound Book, FFL Boss, whatever it is. Serialworks handles the production and inventory side those tools don’t, and stays out of the regulatory record entirely.
Where the line is
| Job | Your bound book / A&D software | Serialworks |
|---|---|---|
| ATF acquisition & disposition record | Yes — that’s its job | No. Not a bound book. |
| Form 2 / eForm filing, 4473 | Yes | No. |
| Operational serial tracking through production | Limited | Yes |
| Heat-lot & mill-cert traceability | No | Yes |
| Job costing (material, labor, machine, overhead) | No | Yes |
| Shop-floor scanning, offline-capable | No | Yes |
| Bill of material, routing, WIP | No | Yes |
How they fit together
Your bound book is the system of record for the ATF. Serialworks is the system of record for your shop floor — what’s on hand, where it came from, what it cost to make. They answer different questions and aren’t in competition; most shops need both. Serialworks exports every screen to CSV and can connect to systems with a REST API or webhooks, so it moves data cleanly around whatever compliance tool you keep.
We will never tell you Serialworks makes you ATF-compliant. Compliance is your responsibility and your bound book’s job. Anyone selling you "operational software" as a compliance shortcut is selling you risk. We build the operational layer, plainly, and we say so.
What Serialworks actually is
- Operational software for suppressor & firearms manufacturers — the whole picture.
- Serial number & heat-lot traceability — genealogy from raw bar to finished unit.
- Job costing for machine shops — real cost per run, not month-end guesses.
